My Journey:
I “discovered” yoga in 2004 and loved it!
From the beginning I've had an open-minded approach and taken every opportunity to experience different traditions and styles of yoga practice. Because of this I've experienced a wide range of range of yoga practice, including classical Hatha, Sivananda, Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow and Iyengar.
I've attended classes and workshops with respected teachers including Sue Woodd and Julie Hanson (Chi Flow and Seasonal Yoga), Radha Warrell & Pierre Seghir (Ashtanga), Chris Hepple (Sivananda), Elena Voyce, David Olton (Contemporary/Yoga-Ballet Fusion), Beko Kaygee (Chi Flow), Shane Moody & John Leebold (Iyengar) and Anne-Marie Newland (Sun Power Yoga).

Training to Teach
I undertook my teacher training with Anne-Marie Newland, achieving the Sun Power Yoga 200 hour certification, accredited by Yoga Alliance as a RYT200 course and approved by the International Yoga Federation and European Yoga Alliance. The course is accredited by the CYQ (Central YMCA Qualification). I took an additional course to pass the CYQ and REPs (Register of Exercise Professionals) Yoga Teachers Qualification (Level 3).

Sun Power is a modern School which specialises in deep intensive training. It's founder and course director, Anne-Marie, has studied many of the traditional forms of yoga practice. She is a qualified Sivananda teacher and completing her training with Swami Vishnu Devananda. She has studied Iyengar yoga (though not as a teacher) and Astanga Vinyasa in the UK and U.S.A. Drawing from these studies she created Sun Power Yoga to be an eclectic mix, combining dynamic Hatha Yoga for alignment; Sivananda Yoga for subtle mind and breath work and Astanga Vinyasa for heat, flexibility and stamina.
As a trainer she demands precision from her students in both their own practice and in their teaching.

I chose Sun Power because of Anne Marie's stated commitment to her students individuality and creativity:

“Our teacher training is unique. It has taken us some time as a school to see how unique. Most traditional and even some new schools do not allow for a deep acceptance of creative input. We actively encourage our teachers to explore their own creative flair in planning and executing their Sun Power Yoga classes.
Sun Power Yoga has a sound basis and structure. We begin and end in a logical way. We allow lots of creative individual input in the middle area of our class planning. As a school we do not wish to produce an army of look-alikes and sound-alikes.”

Professional Development
In 2013 I continued my personal professional development by studying Seasonal Living and Yoga with Sue Woodd and Julie Hanson of Energy Yoga School, which is accredited as 120 hours Continuing Professional Development by Yoga Alliance USA.

In September 2016 I was lucky enough to study with Leslie Kaminoff, author of Yoga Anatomy at Camyoga on his Teaching Tour.

Thai Yoga Massage
In July 2014 completed Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner Training with Ralf Marzen of Mudita School of Thai Yoga Massage. Ralf is a Senior Teacher with the Sunshine Network and accredited with the International Society of Thai Yoga Massage. He is also an accredited instructor with Thai Healing Alliance International (THAI)

Since completing practitioner training I have taken courses on using the feet in Thai massage with Bob Haddad of THAI and Thai Massage for feet and lower legs with Kira Balaskas of The School of Thai Yoga Massage. Kira was the first Thai Yoga Massage practitioner in the UK and established the first practitioner training school in London in 1993.
Between 2014 and 2017 I've taken four Advanced Practitioner Training modules with Kira.

In 2017 I took 2 workshops on Myofascial Release Techniques in Thai Massage with Amanda Oswald of the Pain Care Clinic and will take an advanced training workshop with Amanda later in 2018

Sound Massage and Relaxation Training
In January and February 2018 I completed Levels 1 and 2 of the Peter Hess Sound Massage Training Programme.
The Peter Hess ® Relaxation Sound Massage is a treatment where therapeutic Singing Bowls and Fen Gongs are gently played on the clothed body or in the health aura surrounding the body. The calming, harmonizing sounds and the rhythmic vibrations of the Singing Bowls and Gongs bring a feeling of well-being and encourage us to relax our bodies and minds as the sounds wash around us and through us.
"Just as a stone dropped into water creates ripples, the vibrations spread in concentric waves throughout the body, dissolving tension and giving a nurturing massage on a cellular level."

Qualifying as a teacher, establishing Horizon Yoga and continuing to study and learn are steps on my journey of personal discovery. Come along, try a class, take a deep breath and expand your horizon too.......
